Hi,
As I write here in my latest article for The Washington Post — Perspective | Stuck at home? Now’s the time to have these important talks with your kids. — everyone is exhausted from months of coping with change, fear, uncertainty and devastating news. Yet these same challenges — and extra time with one another — also provide us with openings to talk with our kids about critical topics such as racial injustice and inequity, money and privilege, grief and loss, sexuality and healthy relationships, and values and meaning. I spoke to several experts about how they recommend framing these issues and keeping the conversation going. And check out the gorgeous illustrations by Blacksneakers, an extremely talented 20-year-old artist.

Speaking of experts, I’m honored to join some of my favorite authors and thought leaders for the Parenting in Place Masterclass series. If you register now, you’ll have access to replays of the first two webinars. This past week, Julie Lythcott-Haims, Nefertiti Austin, Christine Koh and Leslie Arreola-Hillenbrand delivered an excellent presentation on talking to kids about race and systemic racism. The week before, Katherine Reynolds Lewis and Audrey Monke kicked off the series with a great talk about navigating summer without camp. This Wednesday at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT, Devorah Heitner and Catherine Steiner-Adair will present “A Conversation About Screen Time.” We’ll be holding six more interactive sessions at the same time throughout the summer.

I’m thrilled to be presenting the last one, “A Conversation About Back to School,” with Jessica Lahey and Derrick Gay. To register and see the full line-up, please visit ParentinginPlaceMasterclass.com. Thanks, and hope to see some of you there!
Warmly,
Phyllis
